Terms of Service

Plain English. No surprises.

Working draft - July 2026. These terms are a working document. The Movers Company has not yet obtained independent legal advice confirming all obligations. If you have specific questions, please contact us directly. We recommend seeking independent legal advice for any specific concerns about your move.

These terms apply to removal and related services provided by The Movers Company, operated by Billy and Jet Byrne (ABN 87 693 842 198). By booking a service with us, you agree to these terms.

No deposit required

We do not require any deposit to confirm your booking. You do not pay anything until the job is complete. If we ask you to confirm a date, that confirmation is based on trust - not a financial commitment from you upfront.

No cancellation fee

We do not charge a cancellation fee, regardless of how much notice you give. If your plans change for any reason - including settlement delays, lease changes, or anything else - just let us know and there is nothing to pay. We believe that charging people for things that aren't their fault is not how a good business operates.

Payment

Payment terms are confirmed at the time of quoting, as they can vary depending on the job. Payment is typically due on or shortly after completion of the service. Billy or Jet will confirm the exact terms and accepted payment methods when your quote is provided. We will always be upfront about what you owe and when.

Piano and heavy item moves

The only additional charge we apply beyond our standard hourly rate is for piano moves, where the fee varies depending on access conditions - flights of stairs, tight corners, distance from the truck, and similar factors. If your move involves a piano, Billy or Jet will assess the access and give you a clear price before the job begins. There are no other special item surcharges. For more detail, see our piano and heavy items page.

If something is damaged

We take full responsibility for any items damaged while in our care. If something is damaged during your move, here is our process:

We document the damage with photos as soon as it is noticed. We obtain a professional quote for the repair or replacement cost. For minor damage, we cover the cost directly. For significant damage, we submit a claim through our QBE goods-in-transit insurance.

Either way, you will receive a clear answer on who is paying and how - not a referral to a claims department. You can read more detail about this process in our post: What Happens If Something Is Damaged During Your Move.

Insurance

All our work is covered by goods-in-transit insurance through QBE. This covers your belongings while they are in our care. Billy and Jet can provide a certificate of currency on request - useful if your strata building or property manager requires it before a move.

Our responsibility to you

Billy and Jet are present and accountable on every job. When you book with The Movers Company, the same people who quoted your move are the ones running it. We treat every item as if it were our own and take the care of your home and belongings seriously throughout.

Pre-existing damage

If you are aware of any existing damage to items being moved, please let Billy or Jet know before we begin. This helps everyone - it means there is no confusion about what happened during the move versus what was already there, and it allows us to take appropriate extra care with that item.
