On the southern shore of Pittwater, where the view gives the suburb its name and the water gives it its character.
Bayview is a hilly suburb on Sydney's Northern Beaches, 31 kilometres north of the CBD, on the southern shore of Pittwater. It is bounded by Pittwater to the north, Mona Vale to the east and south, and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and Church Point to the west. The name is literal - the suburb sits at a point where residents have long enjoyed a view across Pittwater, a body of water that Governor Arthur Phillip explored in March 1788 and named after William Pitt, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at the time. The post office opened in 1882, at which point 'Bay View' was formally adopted as the name for this section of the Pittwater shoreline.
The suburb's waterway character sets it apart from much of the Northern Beaches. Bayview is home to Australia's largest yacht importer, two privately owned floating marinas - Gibson Marina and Bayview Anchorage Marina - and the Bayview Yacht Racing Association, which runs popular learn-to-sail programs for local school students. NSW Maritime also has offices here. WWII tank traps - concrete tetrahedrons - can still be found off Pittwater Road on the water side of the suburb, a little-known remnant of the coastal defence preparations made along Sydney's Northern Beaches during the war. The preservation of the Spotted Gum Forests in the suburb has been recognised as being of state-level conservation significance.
Bayview is a hilly suburb with a residential population of around 3,800 and a genuine bush-and-water feel that reflects its geography. The suburb has multiple parks - Rowland Reserve, an off-leash dog park on Pittwater with beach access, is one of the most loved spots in the Northern Beaches. Pittwater Road runs south-to-north through the suburb as a two-lane single-carriageway road connecting to Mona Vale in the south and Church Point in the north. The residential streets branch off it, ranging from flat waterside roads to steep hillside tracks that command impressive Pittwater views.
Pittwater Road is the practical spine of Bayview and the main approach for any removal truck. It runs as a two-lane road through the suburb - notably narrower than the four-lane section that begins south of Mona Vale - and the loading position for any address directly on or near Pittwater Road needs to be planned in advance. The marinas and BYRA on the western side of the road generate boat-related traffic and weekend visitor activity. For moves near the marina precinct, a weekday morning is significantly more manageable than a weekend.
The residential streets that branch off Pittwater Road to the east and west vary substantially. The flatter streets on the Pittwater side tend to have better truck access and more usable kerb space. The streets that climb up the hillside to the east - reaching toward the views that make the suburb's elevated properties so attractive - can be steep, narrow, and heavily vegetated. Billy assesses driveway access and truck positioning for any hillside Bayview address at quoting stage, because a property that looks accessible from the main road can require a significantly different approach once you reach the street itself.
The Spotted Gum bushland that gives Bayview its nature reserve quality also means some streets have overhanging canopy that affects truck clearance. Billy notes vegetation clearance on any street in the bush fringe of the suburb when quoting. The access dynamic in Bayview is less about traffic congestion - the suburb is genuinely quiet by Northern Beaches standards - and more about the physical terrain and the logistics of positioning a truck in a suburb that was not laid out with large vehicles in mind.

"Moved from a hillside house in Bayview with a steep driveway and no obvious truck position from the road. Billy had it worked out before we even booked - no surprises on the day."- Denise and Paul, Bayview hillside move
We price by the hour. The rate depends on crew size, truck size, and access at both addresses. Use the quote form to get a clear estimate, or read our guide on how much removalists cost in Sydney.
The two-lane section of Pittwater Road through Bayview is narrower than sections further south. For addresses directly on it, Billy identifies the loading position from a side street or driveway rather than holding on the main road. Truck access in Bayview is more about terrain than traffic.
Some are, some aren't without advance planning. The hillside streets east of Pittwater Road vary significantly in gradient, width, and vegetation. Billy assesses each one individually at quoting stage - a steep narrow bush track requires a different approach to a wide residential street two blocks away.
