Removalists Dee Why.

One of the busiest suburbs on the Northern Beaches. We know it well.

Dee Why is one of those rare Sydney suburbs where nobody is entirely sure where the name came from. The earliest written record is a pencil note in surveyor James Meehan's field book from September 1815, reading "Dy Beach" - though Meehan actually wrote this while standing at Freshwater Beach, using "Dy" to describe a much broader stretch of coast than the suburb that now carries the name. Theories range from the shape of the lagoon resembling the letters "D" and "Y," to the call of a small wetland bird, to an Aboriginal word Meehan may have picked up locally. By 1840 it had become the single word "Deewhy," splitting into today's two-word form in the 1920s. Sandstone carvings of black swans still mark the suburb's boundaries along Pittwater Road - a nod to the birds that once flocked on the lagoon in genuine numbers.

That same lagoon - now a wildlife refuge proclaimed in 1973 - sits at the centre of a suburb that has changed a lot over the past decade. New apartment towers along the main strip, a growing population, and one of the more active rental markets on the Northern Beaches mean plenty of moves happening at any given time, and parking near the beach and loading zones on the main roads can be genuinely competitive on a busy morning.

Billy grew up on the Northern Beaches and has done moves across Dee Why regularly. He knows the building types, the access challenges in the older walk-up blocks closer to the beach, and how to plan a start time that avoids the worst of the morning congestion on Pittwater Road. Whether you are moving into a new apartment off the lagoon or clearing a family home on the quieter residential streets further back, Billy and Jet get it done on time and without surprises.

Busy suburb, planned moves

For the newer apartment towers we confirm lift access and loading dock availability before the day. For the older walk-up blocks we factor stair carry distance into the quote upfront.

Billy plans the start time around Pittwater Road traffic so the morning runs smoothly from the first item to the last.

Dee Why has become one of the more active moving markets on the Northern Beaches because of its range. You can move into a one-bedroom apartment off the lagoon, a three-bedroom family home behind the main strip, or a house close to the beach with views worth the price. Billy has moved people in and out of all three and the planning for each is different. The common thread is that Pittwater Road timing matters and the start time is never an afterthought.

Two locals, not a call centre.

When you book a Dee Why move, Billy or Jet runs it personally - not a call centre handing you off to whoever's free. They know older walk-up apartments well enough to plan the truck position and the day before it starts, not figure it out on the morning. On bigger jobs they bring in their own trusted, experienced team, but Billy or Jet is always on site - sometimes both of them. Either way, there's always a named person from The Movers Company accountable for your move. Every item is wrapped and carried properly, and your home - doorframes, walls, floors, at both ends - is protected the whole way through. Fully insured by QBE. No deposit, no cancellation fees.
