Removalists Neutral Bay.

We know Military Road. We know the buildings. We know the parking.

Neutral Bay gets its name from the early colonial period, when the bay was designated a neutral harbour where ships of all nationalities could dock safely without interference. Today it has a different kind of traffic - Military Road carries more cars per day than almost any other street on the Lower North Shore, and barely a weekend goes by without a removal truck parked somewhere between Willoughby Street and Hayes Street.

That is partly because over 80 percent of Neutral Bay homes are flats and apartments, which means the suburb has one of the highest move-frequencies per square kilometre in the area. And the buildings that generate most of those moves - the red-brick Art Deco apartment blocks along Hayes Street, Kurraba Road, and the streets running down toward the Kurraba Reserve foreshore - are genuinely beautiful and genuinely challenging in equal measure. Built in the 1930s and 1940s, their lifts are small, their stairwells are elegant but narrow, and their front entries were never designed with a three-seater sofa or a French door fridge in mind.

Billy has done a lot of Neutral Bay jobs, and he will tell you that the best ones are the ones where the planning was done a week before, not improvised on the morning. The suburb rewards preparation and punishes assumptions.

Military Road is the main road. The side streets are where the work happens.

Military Road itself is essentially a no-go for any meaningful parking during peak hours, which means the loading position for most Neutral Bay jobs has to come from one of the side streets. Willoughby Street, Ben Boyd Road, Young Street, Grosvenor Street - each of these has its own restrictions, and the right one depends on the specific property address. We check all of this before the day and have the truck legally positioned from the moment we arrive.

For the newer apartment buildings closer to the Military Road and Young Street junction - the ones with concierge desks and organised loading docks - the strata requirements are more structured. Lift bookings, loading dock access windows, and in some buildings a certificate of insurance from the removalist before they are permitted to start. We carry QBE documentation on every job and have it ready without being asked. The last thing you need on moving day is a standoff between a building manager and a removalist at 7 in the morning.
