Removalists Castlecrag.

Winding streets, waterfront homes, and moves that need real local knowledge.

Castlecrag is one of Sydney's most genuinely distinctive suburbs - and not just because of the architecture. Walter Burley Griffin, the American architect who won the competition to design Canberra, came to Sydney in the 1920s and designed Castlecrag as a planned community built around the natural contours of the Middle Harbour foreshore. The streets curve and wind around the landscape rather than imposing a grid on it. Properties sit at angles to each other that would not exist anywhere else. The whole suburb feels like it was designed by someone who loved the land it sits on - which it was.

All of which is wonderful if you live there, and genuinely challenging if you are trying to move in or out of it. The streets that Burley Griffin designed to follow the natural landscape - The Barbette, The Bulwark, The Redoubt, The Scarp - curve and dead-end in ways that do not appear on a standard navigation app until you are already committed. Some of the harbour-edge properties have driveways that drop steeply away from the road. Streets that look accessible on a map turn out to have overhead clearance or gradient issues when you arrive with a full truck.

Jet has worked in Castlecrag on multiple jobs. He does not rely on Google Maps to navigate the suburb - he already knows which streets work for a full-size vehicle, which ones require a different approach, and which properties need a site visit before anyone agrees to a start time.

Architecture that was designed around the landscape - and what that means on moving day

Epping Road provides the main artery into the suburb from the north, but once you leave it and enter the Castlecrag street network, the rules change. The private roads and winding residential streets designed by Griffin were not built for modern removal trucks, and the experience of approaching a property from the wrong direction can add significant time to a job. We plan the entry route before the day so that none of that time is wasted on moving day.

The homes in Castlecrag tend to be substantial and well-furnished - the suburb has always attracted residents who care about their environment and the quality of what is in their homes. We take our time with these jobs. Everything is wrapped and protected, the sequence of loading is planned before we start, and the property is treated with the same respect that its design deserves.
