Removalists Hornsby.

Upper North Shore gateway. Family homes that need care.

Hornsby owes its name to a genuine act of bravery. On 22 June 1830, Constable Samuel Henry Horne - himself a former convict - and his colleague Constable John Thorn helped capture the bushranger John McNamara and his accomplice on what was then Windsor Road. Both men were rewarded with land grants: Horne's became Hornsby Place, and Thorn's became the neighbouring suburb of Thornleigh. Despite never actually living on the land himself, Horne's name stuck to the area through to the early 1890s. The Aboriginal traditional owners of the land are the Darug and Kurringgai peoples, and more than 200 known Aboriginal sites remain within the Hornsby Shire today.

The suburb's railway history is a genuine comedy of confused naming. When a station opened in 1886 north of the original Hornsby village, it was eventually called "Hornsby Junction" specifically to distinguish it from another station - also confusingly named Hornsby - a few kilometres south. The mix-up caused enough commuter chaos that in 1900 the southern station was renamed Normanhurst, and "Hornsby Junction" finally simplified to plain Hornsby, the name that stuck for good. Hornsby is now the gateway to the Upper North Shore, with a growing apartment market around the station and established family homes spreading out across the leafy residential streets.

Hornsby is the Upper North Shore's main commercial and transport hub, which gives the suburb two distinct moving environments - the apartment buildings near the station and the family homes on the quieter residential streets behind it. The apartment buildings around the station have their own logistics. The family homes on the residential streets are more straightforward but still benefit from a team that assesses access and plans the day properly.

Station precinct apartments and family homes - both covered properly

The apartment buildings going up around Hornsby station and along the Pacific Highway corridor have lift access and loading dock requirements that are confirmed before the day. Westfield Hornsby on Florence Street generates delivery traffic on surrounding streets during business hours.

The residential streets east of the Pacific Highway - around Edgeworth David Avenue and the quieter blocks toward Waitara - are a more settled moving environment with good truck access. All access is assessed during quoting.

Hornsby Heights and the bush reserve land that surrounds the suburb give it a natural setting that feels genuinely removed from suburban Sydney despite the train connection to the CBD. The streets running up into Hornsby Heights from the town centre become progressively steeper and the access considerations for properties at the elevated end of the suburb are worth checking before a truck commits to a driveway. Billy does this during quoting on any Hornsby Heights property - the gradient and access are confirmed before the day, not discovered on arrival.

Two locals, not a call centre.

When you book a Hornsby move, Billy or Jet runs it personally - not a call centre handing you off to whoever's free. They know both apartments and family homes well enough to plan the truck position and the day before it starts, not figure it out on the morning. On bigger jobs they bring in their own trusted, experienced team, but Billy or Jet is always on site - sometimes both of them. Either way, there's always a named person from The Movers Company accountable for your move. Every item is wrapped and carried properly, and your home - doorframes, walls, floors, at both ends - is protected the whole way through. Fully insured by QBE. No deposit, no cancellation fees.
