Removalists Rozelle.

Rozelle's name has a genuinely unexpected origin for an inner-Sydney suburb - it almost certainly comes from the rosella, a parrot that was once abundant both here and at Rose Hill, the original name for Parramatta. Colonists called the birds "Rose Hill parrots" or "Rose-hillers," which gradually contracted to "rosella," and the colonial Postmaster-General borrowed the name for Rozelle's planned post office in 1892. The land itself had originally been part of a 550-acre grant to colonial surgeon Dr William Balmain in 1800, and Rozelle developed as the more industrial, working-class western half of that original grant, while the eastern section became the suburb of Balmain.

Rozelle sits between Balmain and Leichhardt - one of the inner west's most popular residential pockets, with a mix of terrace houses, semi-detached homes, and some newer apartment buildings closer to Victoria Road. Like much of the inner west, the character of the suburb and the challenge of moving in and out of it go hand in hand.

The terrace houses that define Rozelle's streets typically have no rear vehicle access, narrow hallways, and staircases that make large furniture a genuine exercise in planning and patience. Victoria Road runs busy at almost any time of day and the surrounding residential streets are permit-restricted. Billy and Jet approach Rozelle moves with the same thoroughness as any inner-city job - truck position sorted in advance, access through the property planned before the day, furniture disassembled where needed and put back together at the other end.
