Named after a cherry orchard planted in 1839. Sydney's first project home village. Metro connected since 2019.
Cherrybrook is a suburb 27 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD in the Hornsby Shire, on the edge of the Hills District. Its name traces directly to a specific orchard: in 1839 Joseph Harrison and his wife Mary Ann Thompson settled on a 65-acre block on New Line and Cherrybrook Roads and built a timber cottage they called Cherrybrook Cottage, after the cherry trees they planted beside the creek running through their land. The block had originally been granted to Mary Russell in the 1820s and was one of many early land grants in an area where emancipated convicts from the nearby Castle Hill Government Farm received their first allotments between 1818 and 1819.
Cherrybrook became Sydney's first project home village when the Cherrybrook Farm land was subdivided in 1959 - a distinction that set the template for the wave of Hills District residential development that followed over the following decades. Most of the suburb's significant growth came in the 1980s, when bushland was progressively cleared for housing and public amenities followed. The Cherrybrook Village Shopping Centre, anchored by Woolworths, opened in 1989. The suburb's street naming reflects its development history - colonial architects like Francis Greenway have drives named after them, native plants give names to other streets, and local landowners like John Purchase (who bought land here in 1854 and grew citrus fruit) appear in the street directory.
The most significant change to Cherrybrook in recent years has been transport. Cherrybrook Metro station on Castle Hill Road opened on 26 May 2019 as part of the Sydney Metro Northwest line, giving the suburb direct city access via metro for the first time. In 2023 the line extended through to the CBD and then to Bankstown, making the metro commute genuinely competitive with driving. Cherrybrook Technology High School - consistently one of the largest government high schools in NSW by enrolment - draws families to the suburb for its selective streams. The Lakes of Cherrybrook and Greenway Park are the main recreational open spaces, with the Callicoma Walk bushland trail extending into the Berowra reserve.
Castle Hill Road is the main arterial through Cherrybrook, carrying the metro corridor and through-traffic between the Hills District and the Northern suburbs. New Line Road runs north-south through the eastern side of the suburb and is the other main access route. Both carry meaningful traffic during peak hours. For any Cherrybrook address on or near Castle Hill Road - particularly near the metro station - Billy positions the truck from a residential side street rather than holding on the main arterial. School traffic around Cherrybrook Technology High School is the other peak-hour consideration for weekday moves near the school on Shepherds Drive.
The residential streets in Cherrybrook are predominantly wide postwar suburban roads with good off-street access. The suburb's Hills District character means larger blocks than the inner suburbs, established trees, and in many streets significant setbacks from the road. The Cherrybrook metro station has driven apartment and townhouse development in the streets immediately surrounding it on Castle Hill Road, and these properties have their own strata access requirements - lift booking where applicable, and building manager notification. Billy confirms access requirements for any Cherrybrook apartment address at quoting stage.
The M2 motorway on the southern boundary connects Cherrybrook quickly to the city, and the proximity to Castle Hill and Pennant Hills means moves within the Hills District and Upper North Shore are well-served from here. The suburb's position at the junction of Hornsby Shire and The Hills Shire means some addresses cross council boundaries - useful to know if strata permits or parking approvals need to come from a specific council.
We also cover neighbouring Pennant Hills, Beecroft, and Castle Hill regularly.

"Moved from a Cherrybrook family home near the metro station. Billy had the truck on a side street away from Castle Hill Road, everything loaded before the school run started. Smooth and well-organised."- Kylie and Mark, Cherrybrook Hills District family home move
We price by the hour. The rate depends on crew size, truck size, and access at both addresses. Use the quote form to get a clear estimate, or read our guide on how much removalists cost in Sydney.
The metro station on Castle Hill Road generates pedestrian and bus traffic around the station entrance throughout the day, not just peak hours. For any address near the station, Billy positions the truck from a side street rather than Castle Hill Road itself. For apartments built as part of the metro precinct development, strata access - lift bookings and loading dock details - is confirmed at quoting stage.
Cherrybrook sits on the Hornsby Shire side of the Hills District boundary and is often described as part of the Hills District even though it technically falls within Hornsby Shire. The suburb borders Castle Hill, West Pennant Hills, and Beecroft - all of which are regular destinations for moves out of Cherrybrook. The M2 motorway on the southern edge gives fast freeway access to Parramatta, the city, and the Northern Beaches.
